OpenAI dots can delegate Codex tasks, with separate usage rules

OpenAI says ChatGPT dots can create Work or Codex tasks on a connected computer and continue existing local Codex tasks. Conversations with a dot do not count toward ChatGPT usage limits, but tasks it starts or manages in Work or Codex count toward those products’ limits as usual.

Dots can hand work to Codex

OpenAI describes dots as cloud-based agents that keep working between conversations. They can create Work or Codex tasks on a connected computer, continue existing local Codex tasks, and use a Codex cloud environment for cloud coding work that needs a repository and setup.

Local Codex tasks appear on the connected computer. For cloud coding work, the documentation says a dot can use a Codex cloud environment the user has created. The documentation does not describe this as a new Codex model or an independent Codex release.

Separate ChatGPT and Codex usage treatment

Conversations with a dot do not count toward ChatGPT usage limits. Tasks the dot starts or manages in Work or Codex count toward those products’ usage limits as usual. The plan also includes an allowance for deeper work, with extended limits for the first month after launch.

Dots are rolling out gradually. The documentation lists Pro 100, Pro 200, and Pro 500 for users over 18 outside the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland; Business Premium and Enterprise are rolling out worldwide. Enterprise dots are off by default and require administrator enablement.
