SessionWatcher: the facts

The SessionWatcher app is a paid desktop tool that shows how much of your AI coding tools’ usage limits you have left, when each limit resets, and an estimate of what the usage costs. It covers 20 tools, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and Gemini CLI, and sits in the Mac menu bar or the Windows taskbar. Plans start at $6.99 one-time, with a 7-day free trial that unlocks all of Pro on Mac and Windows and a 14-day refund window.

Supported tools by plan

Solo covers one of Claude Code, Codex or Cursor; the Bundle covers all three; Pro covers all 20. Claude Code, Codex and Cursor are read from the login already on your computer. Free alternatives, and when they are the better choice

Several good trackers are free and open source. If one of them covers your tools and your platform, you do not need SessionWatcher. It is built for people who want one paid, supported app across Mac and Windows, several Claude or Codex accounts side by side, or the iPhone and Watch companion.

Questions

What is SessionWatcher?

The SessionWatcher app is a paid desktop tool that shows how much of your AI coding tools’ usage limits you have left, when each limit resets, and an estimate of what the usage costs. It covers 20 tools, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and Gemini CLI, and sits in the Mac menu bar or the Windows taskbar. Plans start at $6.99 one-time, with a 7-day free trial that unlocks all of Pro on Mac and Windows and a 14-day refund window.

How much does SessionWatcher cost?

Solo is $6.99 one-time (Until Oct 31, then $8.99. Midnight Paris time.) for one of Claude Code, Codex or Cursor on 1 device. The Bundle is $14.99 one-time (Until Oct 31, then $19.99. Midnight Paris time.) for all three on 1 device. Pro is $24 a year (Pro Annual) or $59 one-time ($79 from November 1, Paris time) for Pro Lifetime, for all 20 tools and several Claude and Codex accounts side by side, on up to 5 devices. Companies buying for staff use Pro for Teams: $40 per seat per year or $4 per seat per month, 3-seat minimum.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. The first 7 days are free, need no card and unlock all of Pro, on Mac and Windows. Every purchase also has a 14-day refund window.

Does SessionWatcher work on Windows?

Yes. SessionWatcher for Windows 1.0.1 runs on Windows 10 (version 2004) or later and Windows 11, on x64 and ARM64, with the live readout inside the Windows 11 taskbar (a small window beside the taskbar on Windows 10). One licence key works on Mac and Windows. The installer is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen asks once: "More info", then "Run anyway".

Does SessionWatcher work on Linux?

No. There is no Linux build. On Linux, free options include CodexBar’s Linux desktop app, OpenQuota, and terminal tools such as ccusage and Claude Code Usage Monitor.

Is there a CodexBar for Windows?

Not from CodexBar’s author: CodexBar runs on macOS 14+ and Linux. Free Windows options include Win-CodexBar, a community port for the system tray, CodeZeno’s Claude Code Usage Monitor, a taskbar widget, and OpenQuota. SessionWatcher for Windows is the paid option, with the readout inside the taskbar and one licence for Mac and Windows.

How do I know when my Claude or Codex limit resets?

Without installing anything: run /usage in Claude Code or open claude.ai/settings/usage, and run /status in the Codex CLI or open chatgpt.com/codex/settings/usage. SessionWatcher keeps each window’s reset time and countdown in view all the time and notifies you when a limit resets.

Can I get a notification before I hit a limit?

Yes. SessionWatcher sends a desktop notification at 70% and 90% of a limit by default, or every 10% if you turn that on, and again when the limit resets, on Mac and Windows.

Can I see my AI usage on iPhone or Apple Watch?

Yes, with the Mac app. The SessionWatcher iPhone and Apple Watch companion (TestFlight beta, included with every paid plan) shows the limits your Mac tracks in Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, a Dynamic Island Live Activity, a Watch app and complications. It syncs through your own iCloud and does not work with the Windows app yet.

Can SessionWatcher track several Claude or Codex accounts?

Yes, with Pro. Each Claude or Codex account gets its own limits and reset times, side by side, on Mac and Windows: the 5-hour and weekly limits that account’s plan has.

Can a company buy SessionWatcher for its developers? Is there an admin dashboard?

Companies use Pro for Teams: $40 per seat per year or $4 per seat per month, 3-seat minimum, one invoice, each seat on up to 2 Macs (Macs only for now). There is no admin dashboard: each developer sees their own usage on their own machine, and company-wide spend stays in each provider’s admin console.

Does SessionWatcher read my code or conversations?

No. It reads usage from the logins, logs and keys your AI tools already keep on your computer. Some providers’ usage is fetched from that provider’s own API, from your computer. Licence checks send the licence key and device details to SessionWatcher.

How is SessionWatcher different from CodexBar and ccusage?

CodexBar is free and open source (MIT), runs on macOS and Linux, and covers more providers (91, per its README). ccusage is a free command-line report built from local logs. SessionWatcher is paid; it adds a Windows taskbar app on the same licence, several Claude and Codex accounts side by side, desktop widgets and an iPhone and Apple Watch companion. If a free tool covers what you need, use it.
