The panel above is GitHub’s own reading of Copilot, taken from githubstatus.com, not a measurement of ours. When both Copilot components are operational and premium models still fail, the usual cause is your premium-request allowance.
Outage, or your own limit?
An outage breaks everything at once: completions, chat and every model, with connection errors or timeouts, and the panel above turns amber or red. A model provider problem breaks specific models while the rest keep working. A quota problem is the odd one out: base completions carry on, and only premium models stop.

- Is GitHub Copilot down right now?
- The live panel at the top of this page shows GitHub's own status for Copilot and for Copilot's AI model providers, read from githubstatus.com and refreshed every minute. If both are operational and Copilot still fails, the cause is usually local or your premium-request allowance.
- Copilot works, but premium models stopped. Why?
- Premium models draw on a monthly premium-request allowance on paid Copilot plans. When it is used up, those models stop until it resets or until paid overage is allowed, while base completions keep working. That looks like a partial outage but is a quota.
- What is "Copilot AI Model Providers" on the status page?
- GitHub lists the third-party model providers Copilot calls as their own component. When it is degraded, specific models can fail while Copilot itself is up, so switching models is the quickest workaround.
