What ClaudeUsageBar is
A free, open-source macOS menu bar app that shows Claude and Claude Code usage limits at a glance. Its own site lists session and weekly tracking with reset times, usage notifications at 25%, 50%, 75% and 90%, live Claude service status, a Cmd+U shortcut, and local-only storage with no analytics or telemetry. It runs on macOS 12 or later on Apple Silicon and Intel, and it is under 5MB. The source is at github.com/Artzainnn/ClaudeUsageBar.
That is a genuinely good free tool. If you want to read the code before running it, this is the option that lets you.

Use ClaudeUsageBar if
- Claude is the only AI coding tool you use.
- You want to pay nothing, which is a completely reasonable position.
- You want to read the source before you run it.
- Your Mac is on macOS 12 or 13 and cannot run Sonoma.

These are not really competitors, which is the honest thing to say. ClaudeUsageBar solves Claude, for free, well. Is ClaudeUsageBar really free?
Yes. It is free and open source, with the repository public at github.com/Artzainnn/ClaudeUsageBar. If price is the deciding factor, that is a real and honest advantage, and you should use it.

What is the setup difference?
ClaudeUsageBar documents that it needs a session cookie extracted from claude.ai to work. SessionWatcher reads the credentials the Claude Code CLI has already stored on your Mac, so for Claude Code there is nothing to paste. Whether that matters depends on how often you would have to redo it.
Which macOS versions do they need?
