How much is Claude Pro?
Claude Pro costs $20 a month in the US, or $200 a year paid up front, which comes to $17 a month. Those are Anthropic's list prices before tax: some regions show tax in the price and others add it at checkout, and if you subscribe in the iOS or Android app Anthropic points you to the app store for the price there. There is no standing discount on Pro, and Anthropic's support team cannot issue coupons.
For that price you get Claude on the web, desktop and mobile with at least five times the Free plan's usage per 5-hour session, plus Claude Code in your terminal, Opus and more Claude models, Projects, and Claude in Chrome and Microsoft 365. All of it draws on one allowance: a session limit that resets every five hours and a weekly limit across all models that resets at a fixed time assigned to your account. Anthropic publishes no message count for either.

On Windows? Claude usage in the Windows taskbar: the same Pro limits, live on Windows 10 and 11.
Claude Pro monthly or yearly: which costs less?
Yearly, by $40. Twelve months at $20 come to $240; the annual plan is $200, charged once. Anthropic calls it a discounted rate and it is the only permanent saving it offers on Pro. The catch is the commitment: you pay for the year on day one. If you think you may outgrow Pro, that is less of a trap than it looks. Max is billed monthly only, and when you move from an annual Pro plan to Max, Anthropic credits your account for the rest of the Pro year if it is worth more than the Max price.
What does Claude Pro include?
Everything in Free, with more usage and more of Claude. Anthropic's pricing page lists:
- More usage per 5-hour session: at least five times Free.
- Claude Code, on the same limits as your chats.
- Opus, Sonnet and Haiku; Fable only through paid usage credits.
- Projects, tasks you can hand off and schedule, Claude Dashboards (beta) and Claude Science.
- Claude in Chrome and Claude for Microsoft 365.
- Since 21 October 2026, a waitlist for the Claude Duet research preview for US Pro and Max subscribers, on the same usage limits as the rest of Claude.
What Pro leaves out: Fable within your limits, the monthly API credits ($100 or $200 a month on Max), higher output limits, and priority access at busy times. Those are what Max adds.
How much usage does Claude Pro give you?
There is no fixed number of messages. Anthropic says what you can send depends on the length of your messages and attached files, the length of the conversation, and the model or feature you use. Two limits apply on top of each other:
- A 5-hour session limit that resets every five hours. On 22 September 2026 Anthropic's Opus 5.5 announcement raised five-hour limits on Pro, Max and Team without giving the new amounts, and added a limit reset you can save and use when you choose.
- A weekly limit across all models, which resets at a fixed day and time assigned to your account, whenever your subscription began.
Claude on the web, the desktop and mobile apps, and Claude Code all draw from that one pool. A long Claude Code session can use up the allowance you would have spent on chats that afternoon, and the reverse. When you reach a limit you can wait for the reset, move to Max, or turn on usage credits to keep working at standard API rates.
Claude Pro vs Max price: what 5x and 20x cost
Max 5x is $100 a month, five times the Pro price for five times Pro's usage per 5-hour session. Max 20x is $200 a month, ten times the Pro price for twenty times the usage, so it is the only plan where a dollar buys more session allowance than on Pro. Both include Fable within half their weekly limits and $100 or $200 of monthly API credits. Anthropic does not say how large any weekly limit is, so whether Max's extra session room lasts the whole week only shows in your own usage. The row-by-row comparison is in Claude Pro vs Max, and the case for and against upgrading in is Claude Max worth it.
Is a Team seat cheaper than Claude Pro?
No, but it gives more. A standard Team seat is $25 a month, or $20 a month billed annually, against Pro's $20 and $17. For that you get more usage than Pro per seat, and central billing and administration. The Team plan is for 2 to 150 people, so it is an option for two or more, not a cheaper way for one person to buy Pro.
How to see how much of Pro you have left
Settings > Usage on claude.ai shows the current session and the week, and /usage shows the same inside Claude Code. Both mean stopping to look. SessionWatcher keeps both Pro limits in your Mac menu bar (or the Windows taskbar): the session and the week as live percentages, the time each one resets, alerts before you hit them, and a 7-day history. A week of that history is also the honest way to decide whether Pro is enough or Max is worth the step. Every way to check, with or without an app, is in how to check Claude Code usage.

Frequently asked questions
How much is Claude Pro a month?
$20 a month in the US when billed monthly, or $17 a month on the yearly plan, which is billed as $200 up front. Prices are in local currency where Anthropic supports it, and some regions show tax in the price while others add it at checkout.
Is Claude Code included in Claude Pro?
Yes. Claude Code is included in every paid plan, Pro included, and it shares Pro’s usage limits: your work in the terminal and your chats draw from the same 5-hour session and the same weekly limit.
Is there a Claude Pro discount or coupon?
Not a standing one. Anthropic says it has no standard discounted pricing for Pro or Max, runs limited-time promotions now and then through its official channels, and that its support team cannot issue one-off discounts or coupons. Nonprofit discounts apply to Team and Enterprise plans only. The yearly plan is the one permanent saving on Pro.
Does Claude Pro include Fable?
Only through usage credits, which you pay for at standard API rates. Max 5x and Max 20x include Fable within 50% of their weekly limits.
Can I switch from yearly Pro to Max later?
Yes. Max is billed monthly only, and Anthropic credits your account when the rest of your annual Pro plan is worth more than the Max price; the credit goes toward future subscription costs.
